Comments:

Hamish has the capacity, width, topline and style that will see him able to improve maternal and beefing characteristics in Highland females. All this and good feet and a very quiet temperament. Structurally he is hard to fault, with the smoothest shoulder of any bull we have bred, giving that front end wedge-shape that we aim to breed into our lines for ease of calving. His loin and his rib shape really set him apart from his peers in the paddock, and his tight pizzle heaps of hair round him off nicely. (Forgive his dossan in his younger photos as he was in with a couple of other bulls and they butted heads all day long, like it was training for an Olympic sport!)

Nicknamed "Hamish the Hulk" as a calf because of his thickness and stance compared to the other calves, he was selected as our herd sire in the 2025 season. His dam, Rommy, is consistently one of our best producing and biggest cows. She is easy-doing and has a sound udder and some serious presence and style. Rommy has thus far not had a poor, or even an average calf - they have always been in the top 20% in each calf crop, and indeed, in the embryo program that "Hamish the Hulk" came from.

Hamish's sire, Hamish of Crannog Rhu ET, was a bull with a lot of breed character, great feet and a very desirable muscle pattern. He was structurally impeccable and from a sire and dam line known for their excellent udders. Born from an ET program in 1996, I saw this bull as a 6 year old (the main photo on our website is one I took back then) and was blown away by his volume and traditional look. At that stage we owned a full sister to him from the same embryo flush (Airlie of Crannog Rhu ET) and she was a sight to behold - long, deep, traditional cow with a lovely, even udder.
